Welcome to Military Gardeners

Military Gardeners is a new charity (charity number 1140881) set up to help service personnel readapt to civilian life on leaving the Armed Forces. This can be a difficult transition, particularly for those with a long service history, those who have been injured and those who have suffered from combat stress.

Our aim is to raise 6.5 million pounds to fund and train 500 gardeners of the future.

Military GardenersWe will give each service member training and advice on how to start a new gardening business.  Each person will work for two months with an established gardening organisation. They will also receive training in lawnmower maintenance and repair as well as general gardening duties.

On completing their training they will be supplied with a starter pack consisting of a vehicle, lawnmower, tools and a uniform. The scheme will also cover all the necessary insurance including vehicle and public liability.

After three months of successful self-employment they will gift aid Military Gardeners £60 per week which will continue to cover all their insurances and help fund future gardeners and the replacement of vehicles and tools when required.

The charity trustees are Colonel (Retired) Ian Smith OBE and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Bill White MBE.
